Telework interview

The remote work interview is a formal discussion between an employee and their line manager or a human resources representative to assess, plan, and discuss expectations and performances related to remote work. This interview is usually conducted when the employee starts working remotely or at regular intervals to take stock of how remote work is taking place and to resolve any issues or concerns.

The goals of the remote work interview may include:

  • Set expectations: Clarify remote work expectations, including work hours, deadlines, goals, responsibilities, and communications.
  • Evaluate performance: Discuss how the employee is adapting to remote work, productivity, efficiency, and engagement in assigned tasks.
  • Solving problems: Identify and address potential problems or obstacles that may hinder the productivity and well-being of the remote employee.
  • Provide feedback: Provide feedback on the work done remotely and on areas where the employee can improve.
  • Plan future actions: Discuss what steps can be taken to improve the remote work experience, including training, the acquisition of tools, access to necessary resources, etc.
  • Maintain work-life balance: Ensure that remote work does not lead to an imbalance between the employee's professional and personal life and explore ways to maintain a good balance.
  • Review policies and procedures: Review and update company remote work policies as needed to ensure they remain appropriate to employee needs.

The telework interview may vary in frequency, depending on company practices. Some organizations conduct it quarterly, semi-annually, or annually, while others do it on a more regular basis, especially when an employee starts working remotely. The main objective is to ensure that remote work takes place in an efficient manner, taking into account the needs of the company and the employee.
